1LT Russell P. Galeti, Jr., is an Ohio National Guard infantry officer writing as a member of a joint Hungary-United States Operational Mentor and Liaison Team deploying to serve as combat advisors alongside the Afghan National Army. He leads a company-level combat advisor team of 10 Hungarian and American soldiers and advises a company of approximately 120 Afghan National Army soldiers in all aspects of training and combat operations.
Russell has been an Ohio National Guard solider for over 11 years and his previous assignments include Infantry Company Executive Officer, Infantry Platoon Leader, Infantry Squad Leader, Infantry Team Leader, M1 Abrams Gunner, and M1 Abrams Crewman.
Russell is a 1998 graduate of Kenston High School, in Bainbridge Township, Ohio; and a 2005 graduate of Kent State University. He was activated for and deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom for sixteen months between 2003-2005, worked for the Strickland for Governor 2006 campaign, and served for two years as the director of a strategic community outreach program within the State of Ohio Adjutant General’s Department.
When not in training or deployed, Russell lives with his wife, Mary in Pepper Pike, Ohio, which is far too infrequently for either of them.
